Read Tommy's Story
“I was as big as a Chargers lineman and didn’t even know it.” His story is one so many of us can relate to: growing up healthy and in shape and then suddenly as you enter your 30s, the weight creeps on and the number on the scale steadily increases. Little Tommy Sablan, a popular cast member on San Diego’s KyXy 96.5 Jeff and Jer Morning Show, wrestled with his weight through most of his adult life. He was 80 pounds overweight and “avoided being seen in public” he said. It was commonplace for Little Tommy to be the butt of radio and social media jokes. Being a punch line was not easy for the native San Diegian.
“I would laugh along with them, but deep inside I was sad and hurting,” he said, adding that for years, he avoided the obvious (and mirrors). “When you are heavy you just don’t see yourself as you really are. Then it was like one morning I woke up and was like ‘woah”.
“After years of hearing about the success KyXy’s listeners had with the Medifast Weight Control Centers program, Tommy was finally motivated. In early November 2011, he put the days of regularly feasting on fast food behind him and committed to the Medifast Centers program.
From day one”the process was super easy and fun,”he said. “The weight just flew off.”
Fast forward three years later, Little Tommy Sablan is a new man, over 90 pounds lighter, an avid runner and embodiment of a Medifast Center success story. Not only did the weight drop off but he is healthy now and no longer avoiding the mirror or the doctor’s office. With more than 15 half marathons under his belt, it is apparent from more than just photos that Tommy is not the same guy.
Little Tommy is a pillar in the San Diego community with his extensive charity work and outreach. For this he inspires many people every day, but his health and weight loss transformation have also encouraged others. KyXy listeners gush over how Tommy got them off the couch, into a Medifast Center and onto a happier and healthier life. Two of his biggest fans are Tommy’s children. “They see dad happy and I am able to be a role model to them,”he said.
or the last two years, Tommy has been able to actively manage his weight and is still a staple at many of the San Diego Medifast Centers. Through all his success, Tommy makes it known that none of his achievements would have been possible if it weren’t for the support he received in the centers and his counselors. “I love the atmosphere in the center…it feels like home,”he said.
*Average weight loss for Medifast Weight Control Center® customers is 25 pounds.

Read Vince's Story
Losing weight can be a roller coaster of an experience. Maybe you go on a fad diet and lost 10 pounds relatively quickly. Then the diet ends and you end up gaining 12 pounds even faster than the time it took you to lose 10. When your weight goes up and down over time, especially if the numbers are large, it can be far worse for your body than being overweight consistently. All the stress and strain on your bones, muscles and hormones can wreak havoc and leave you feeling defeated.
Finding a healthy weight loss program that doesn’t leave you feeling like you’re starving all the time can be a challenge. But Vince Nicholas, producer on The Armstrong & Getty Show, found it when he joined Medifast California Weight Control Centers. For Vince, it started with another New Year’s Resolution—one he had made many times before to no avail. But by the end of 2012, Vince was motivated enough to work with a weight loss counselor at Medifast California and set up a personalized blueprint based on his own weight loss goals.
Committing himself to his custom plan wasn’t nearly as hard as he thought it would be, because he wasn’t left feeling too hungry at any point throughout the day. His meal plan was packed with nutritious, filling foods that left him satisfied and energized. The healthy diet combined with a strength training and cardio program had him losing weight fast, and he was able to keep up with it by being accountable to his Medifast California weight loss counselor. In less than a year of following the start of his weight loss blueprint, Vince lost 150 pounds and felt like a whole new person.
“The counselors never let me down, always kept me motivated and taught me so much about how to eat right to maintain my weight loss and never feel as if I was starving,” says Vince of his experience at Medifast California. As exciting and rewarding as losing all that weight was for Vince, he was most happy about being able to keep it off. Maintaining weight loss can be far more challenging than losing it to begin with, because it involves staying disciplined and not falling back into old habits.
While 2013 was about losing the weight, 2014 became about maintaining his weight loss. Vince had fun playing basketball and building muscle, which helps to consistently burn fat.
“Watching Vince come to our center over the past two years and transform each week has brought us a special kind of pride,” said Vince’s former counselor Terri Huckabee. “He went from a man afraid of leaving his house to a 5K runner who reconnected with his family and started dating.”
It’s now been three years since Vince joined Medifast California, and he’s in the best shape of his life. “The past three years have been life-changing for me. I’ve been running, working out, doing so many things I could never do when I was heavy.” Vince is now a confident, free and fit person thanks to Medifast California Weight Control Centers.
Read Ehren's Story
When Ehren walks into the room, he commands it. Perhaps that is common of someone in a position of law enforcement, but nonetheless it is nearly impossible to ever picture Ehren being 80 pounds heavier.
A married, family man, Ehren was a highway patrolman and former collegiate athlete. He had always assumed he was in shape but as the years crept on, so did the pounds. Turning a blind eye, Ehren disregarded the weight gain, but when he was left immobile and badly injured in an accident the endless stream of comfort food and sedentary lifestyle caused Ehren to gain an additional 40 pounds. During a routine follow-up appointment with his doctor, Ehren was forced to face the music and the scale. He was diagnosed pre-Diabetic and was warned that things had to change.
After listening to Vince from the Armstrong & Getty Show on the radio, Ehren was inspired to call Medifast California. He was inspired and though “If Vince can do it and keep the weight off, I have to at least try.”
Ehren’s counselor jokes that when he first walked into the center he had “a real tough guy mentality and weariness about the program, but as the pounds flew off, his disposition changed 100%.” “It was so easy and works so fast – I couldn’t believe how much better I felt each day on the program!” Ehren added.
Losing over 80 pounds in less than a year, Ehren became a true inspiration to his family and friends and is healthier now than he was in college. He has made a full recovery from his accident and back at work, living life to the fullest. “Everything is better in my life now. I have no fears. I am looking and feeling better now at 48 then I did at 35 – I just wish I made the call 10 years ago!”
Read Sue & Chris's Story
Sue and Chris were a happily married couple. They were always busy traveling and enjoying life to the fullest. Things seemed great until Chris suffered a heart attack in 2007 and the couple was faced with the alarming reality that they were not nearly as healthy as they had assumed. Explaining their lifestyle, Sue said “we were always active and we ate almonds for heaven’s sake…” To which Chris interjected “we ate the whole container of almonds.”
Following a recommendation from Chris’ cardiologist, the couple decided to visit their local Medifast California center. Retired and each having approximately 50 pounds of weight to lose, they realized that they did not want to waste any more time being overweight and wanted to live the rest of their lives in an even better, more fulfilling way. After learning about the Medifast program, Sue was convinced it would be a good fit. “I wanted something that was fast, easy, I could maintain and accountability – Medifast was perfect.”
The couple joined together and helped each other along their weight loss journey, however they attribute their over 100 pound weight loss to their counselors. The knowledge and expertise exhibited by their counselors and the entire center staff helped them realize that 10 almonds are great, just not the whole container. Both Sue and Chris have better habits and understand portion control. “We always ate healthier foods but never understood portions or how often you should eat.” Portion control and size seems to be problem for so many but with the help and tips from their counselors, Sue and Chris are now experts. They eat regularly and are able to travel the world as they had before – just a lot lighter. “We are never hungry!”
Life for Sue and Chris just gets better and better! Chris has cut back on his cardiac medications and Sue teaches yoga weekly. They have maintained their weight loss for over 4 years and still stop by their local center to say hello. “I love the environment there – it’s like Cheers,” Chris laughs.
