Have you ever participated in a public race/run/or walk? If you first laughed and then emphatically said, “No way!” you might want to consider stepping outside of your comfort zone. Those of you who have joined a public race, then we know that you get it!

Even if you aren’t a runner. Even if the thought of running makes you want to lay down. Even if it sounds like torture – be brave and give it a try! There is nothing quite like the excitement of everyone gathering together for one healthy purpose, the joy of feeling the support of hundreds of participants, and the powerful feeling of accomplishing a goal you never thought you could.

A large component of the Medifast path to a healthier life is working consistent exercise into your life. We encourage you to get out and exercise on your own, with a friend, in a group, with your kids – basically in any way you can. Medifast has created a program, Healthy Strides Race and Fitness Series, to help instill an incentive and goal for your exercise plan. With multiple race events in both Northern and Southern California, there is sure to be a race near you. Train, prepare, and then join on of the runs or walks. The majority of events are 5K in length, making them an attainable goal for most.

Featured below are two exciting, upcoming races. Join the movement, get caught up in the joy, and celebrate your victory!

San Diego on the Run 5K Walk/Run

On June 7th, 2015 the San Diego on the Run 5K Walk/Run will start at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. This annual event supports the San Diego Blood Bank. Participants collect pledges from friends and family, all of which are donated to the San Diego Blood Bank.

This family-friendly event is appropriate for all ages and most physical abilities. The route follows along the beautiful San Diego Bay, and participants are rewarded with a free lunch at the finish line. Local sponsors include: Medifast, Subway, Ralphs, Macy’s, Barona, Star 94.1, and many more.

What better way to kick off the start of a healthy summer than with a lively, fun, and invigorating community race through stunning San Diego? Don’t miss out on the experience!

Electric Run Sacramento

Are you ready for an experience like no other? Then don’t miss the Electric Run Sacramento.

In line with the white hot EDM (Electronic Dance Music) trend, Electric Run Sacramento is a nighttime 5K run/walk through a “world” of LED lights, flashing colors, and pumping music. Join hundreds of participants, all dressed in eclectic, and often electric costumes for a race experience like no other.

On June 13th, 2015 the Electric Run will light up the streets of Sacramento. The 5K course winds through the city, taking runners through magnificent “rooms” of strobe lights, vivid color, and electronic dance music. Between “rooms” runners will light up the dark of the city with glow sticks, LED costumes, and glow-in-the-dark gear. The course ends at an after party that rivals the largest EDM concerts. Dance the night away with your fellow runners, all to the intoxicating lights and music. This isn’t exercise! This is an event to remember and an experience to feed your soul.

Register online to secure a spot for yourself, or, for even more fun, gather a group of friends and create a team. Your registration packet includes a limited edition T-shirt with a glow-in-the-dark logo, an LED bracelet, and a UV glow body pen. Spend some time planning a fun costume for the race; from demure to outrageous – anything goes! Don’t forget to train before the race and incorporate exercise into your healthy-living commitment. Then, on the big night, throw it all to the wind and enjoy every moment!

At Medifast we believe that long-term weight loss and health is achieved through a balance of nutrition and physical activity. Finding alternatives to make physical activity fun is the key to keeping you interested. Once you get the race/run/walk bug in your system, you will be hooked. Join us at one of our Northern or Southern California race events and see what all the fuss is about. You won’t regret it!
