Spring, the season of new beginnings, is here. If you’re ready to begin discovering a new, healthier you, check out these spring weight loss tips.

Clean House

Take some time to clean your house. Not only will it feel nice to get rid of the dust, but housework burns calories. Scrubbing your floors for thirty minutes, for example, could help you burn at least 100 calories – exact number depends on specifics such as gender, height, weight, and age. Now, maybe that’s not a lot, but every little bit helps!

Clean Attitude

Next clean up your attitude. Before starting a new weight loss regime, consider how you think about your body, your goals, and your past efforts. It’s easy to give up if we let ourselves get bogged down with negativity. People sometimes stop trying to lose weight because they focus on the fact that they have repeatedly tried, and failed. Don’t fall into this trap. Remember that this is your new beginning. Even if you’ve struggled in the past, you can succeed this time!

Enjoy More Fresh Produce

Getting smart about maintaining a healthy diet is a great way to start. Many of the best foods for weight loss come from the produce section. Check out a farmers market to get the best in locally grown produce. While you’re browsing the aisles, keep an eye out for these weight loss superstars: greens bean (high in fiber, but low in fat and calories), avocados (rich in the heart healthy fats that can help you feel fuller and prevent snacking between meals), and grapefruit (lowers insulin levels, helping your body to use the food you eat rather than storing it as fat).

You might also want to look into a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). These food co-ops typically allow you to purchase baskets of assorted seasonal fruits and vegetables at great prices. The catch is that, unlike the grocery store or farmers market, you don’t get to choose what goes in your basket. Sometimes you’ll get produce that you’re less familiar with. However, this can be a great opportunity to try new foods and to find great new recipes.

Get a Few New Habits

Your new beginning needs a set of healthy new habits if you’re hoping to not only lose weight, but also to keep it off. Start by taking advantage of the warmer weather to get outside. Has your exercise routine been a little lacking during the long winter months when you were stuck indoors to work out in your living room? Now that it’s spring consider taking a walk, riding a bike, or strapping on your rollerblades. Whatever gets you out and gets you moving.

Now is also a good time to get better at making healthy choices throughout your day. We’re not talking about a complete diet overhaul, just a minor adjustment here or there. The next time you reach for a can of soda, think about pouring yourself a glass of water instead. If you’re feeling hungry between meals, consider a handful of almonds instead of potato chips. Almonds are high in healthy fats, fiber, and other nutrients and can help curb your snack attack without all the salt and sugar contained in junk food.

Find Support

One last tip for losing weight this spring is to get a friend to help you. Let’s face it—building and maintaining the kind of consistent routine that helps you lose weight is hard work. There will be days when you would rather sit on the couch and eat a brownie. Working with a friend can make it easier. Discuss your goals together and decide how best you can help each other. That might mean setting up a regular game of tennis or sending a daily text with a friendly, “How’d you do today?” Knowing that someone else is cheering you on can be a great motivational tool.
