4 Diabetes Weight Loss Tips

The numbers are quite staggering – nearly 26 million Americans are thought to have some sort of Diabetes-related illness. Some are in the early stages of this deadly disease, while others are living through some truly challenging times by dealing with some of the more serious side effects of diabetes. One of the most beneficial changes an individual can make when trying to minimize the effects of diabetes is weight management. Weight loss programs can minimize – and sometimes eliminate, the symptoms and dangers of this ravaging disease. The following are some of the key considerations to take when trying to lose weight for the sake of helping to manage your diabetes:

  • Eat right. Yes, we all know that foraging on pizza, hamburgers, and ice cream can’t help but expand the waistline, but healthy eating is about so much more than simply eliminating “bad” foods. It is important to look at any weight loss program as an opportunity to eat the right foods in the appropriate amounts. The Medifast diet philosophy in particular, is centered on the premise that smaller, healthier meals throughout the day will ignite and improve the body’s metabolic rate, versus the traditional three large meals. This means that the body is burning more calories throughout the day – even when resting. Eating right is the first step in any weight loss program. But, is Medifast safe? The answer is, absolutely!   • Exercise! Though it may seem obvious, exercise is one of the most important components to any weight loss plan. The goals shouldn’t be marathon-level training every day.   • Drink lots of water – Yes, everyone will tell you that drinking water is an important part of any health and wellness routine. It also enables your body to process foods appropriately, and it keeps your body in stasis so as to prevent dangerous dips in blood sugar levels and other diabetes-related issues.
  • Keep others involved. Making your diabetes weight loss plan an effective and long-term solution to this horrible disease is the real goal. Diets can fail and exercise can get tiresome. It is important to emphasize the social nature of weight loss, so team up with friends to go for a walk. Or, design a healthy eating club that trades recipe ideas for low fat, high protein meals. The choice is yours – but make sure that you work hard to include others in the decisions you make.

Losing weight can add years of life. If you find that you are suffering from this debilitating disease, don’t hesitate to act! Start eating right and you’ll be one step closer to meeting the end goals of your particular weight loss program. Exercise often and mix in weight training and alternative exercises like Yoga or Pilates for an added dose of fun. Keep yourself hydrated and involve others in your weight loss routine. Take control of this disease and you’ll live a longer, more satisfying, life.
